Kyoto/London − Kyocera Fineceramics Europe GmbH plans to invest around 34 million euros in its two European sites in Mannheim (Baden-Württemberg) and Selb (Bavaria) in the current 2023/24 financial year. KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH has hired more than 200 new employees since the acquisition and merger of its two predecessor companies, the non-oxide ceramics manufacturer H. C. Starck Ceramics GmbH in Selb and the ceramics business of Friatec GmbH in Mannheim.KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH is one of the world’s leading suppliers of advanced ceramics for a wide range of industrial applications, ranging from automotive to energy and medical technology to semiconductor manufacturing.

Murata

Murata Manufacturing, Co., Ltd. ( “Murata”), Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd. (head office: Nishi-ku, Osaka; president: Hideo Takahashi; hereinafter, “Ishihara Sangyo”) and Fuji Titanium Industry Co., Ltd. (head office: Nishi-ku, Osaka; president: Hideo Nogi; hereinafter, “Fuji Titanium”) established joint venture company MF Material Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “MF Material”) and held a ceremony on the same day to mark the occasion.

MF Material was established to combine the respective manufacturing technologies and expertise cultivated by Fuji Titanium and Murata, capitalizing on this body of knowledge to further improve quality and productivity, including the construction of a new plant in Nobeoka, Miyazaki Prefecture, which will increase the production capacity of barium titanate when it begins operation in 2027.

Niterra

Niterra Co., Ltd., Japan’s leading spark plug and ceramics manufacturer with an evolving portfolio focused on ceramics and beyond, announced today has invested in the startup company Imbed Biosciences, Inc. (Headquarters: WI, USA, hereinafter Imbed Biosciences), through the CVC fund (*1) jointly operated with Pegasus Tech Ventures.

CeramTec

- Demand for ceramic components for joint replacement is growing. CeramTec, the advanced ceramics specialist, is taking this into account and expanding its manufacturing capacities in Marktredwitz, Upper Franconia. The first construction phase of the new building covers a total area of around 11,000 m², and there is potential for further expansion on the site. The com pany plans to complete and fully commission the building by 2026.

High-performance ceramics (HPC) in medical technology are characterized by very favorable physicochemical properties and particularly good biological compatibility. Areas of application include components for hip prostheses and other orthopedic implants, dental implants, or components for medical de vices. CeramTec is a leading supplier in the HPC industry worldwide and has more than 100 years of experience in development and production.

UBE

UBE Corporation has decided to expand silicon nitride production facility at its UBE Chemical Factory to meet rapidly growing demand mainly for bearings and substrates for electric vehicles (xEVs). The facility is scheduled to go on-line in the second half of fiscal 2025. The production capacity will be about 1.5 times from the current level.

UBE’s silicon nitride powder is the high-quality ceramic material which is made by the original lmide decomposition process. This process, our proprietary process, has superiority in particle design with purity, morphology, crystal phase, grain size, its distribution and other important properties which can control the micro-structure, and consequently it enhances thermo-mechanical properties required for final products such as strength, fracture toughness, hardness, thermal shock fracture resistance, thermal conductivity, etc. Since 1986, its going on the market, UBE’s silicon nitride powder has been used for various final applications in a wide range of industries such as automobile, aerospace, electronics, machine tools and others, and recognized as a global standard by ceramic manufacturers all over the world.
